Get Started In Beauty programme helps unlock futures at Boots

This month we launched our first-ever Get Started in Beauty programme in partnership with The King’s Trust.

During the five-day programme, 17 young people from our home county were invited to our Nottingham support office to explore what a career in beauty looks like at Boots.

Equipping them with essential experience, they learned practical tips and tricks for applying makeup from our expert No7 Advisors and met members of our talented Boots Beauty Crew. They also completed skincare and fragrance workshops, before putting everything they’d learned into practice by creating bespoke beauty looks for their final challenge.

With the support of 11 experts from across the business and more than 800 products that were sampled and demoed, these young people spent more than 30 hours together shaping their futures.

Candice Smith, Head of ESG, Boots UK, said: “The beautiful thing about the beauty industry is that there’s space for everyone, regardless of their background. Our partnership with The King’s Trust is all about helping build strong paths for young people across the UK to unlock their futures, and what a privilege it’s been to watch this group grow in confidence and realise their potential. I can’t wait to see how this programme evolves so we can continue empowering the next generation.”

Since the start of our partnership with The King’s Trust in 2019, we’ve supported over 700 young people across the UK through our Get into Retail, Customer Care, or Warehousing programmes, as well as our ‘World of Work’ insight days. These meaningful opportunities have equipped these young people with the skills, confidence and self-esteem they need to successfully enter the workplace.

Rachel Edwards, East Midlands Head of Delivery for The King’s Trust, said: “Our long-standing partnership with Boots has helped hundreds of young people to develop their confidence and skills for work in several sectors.

"The Get Started in Beauty programme was an opportunity for them to express themselves creatively, while also learning about the job opportunities available within the beauty industry.

“We are grateful to Boots for their commitment to young people, who are currently facing multiple challenges. Boots continued support will help young people to increase their confidence, build the skills they need for work and inspire them to fulfil their potential.”
